I installed X4.5 over 4.2 Pro in order to get my wireless card working. 2 minuits after install I had it working fine. To my added pleasure It detected and installed a vidio driver for my nVidia GeForce 7100 PCI graphics card. It has a good amount of resilutuions and monitor types to pick from, except the new HP 2709m that I bought. It requires for best performance and aspect ratio a setting of 1920 X 1080. Yup i'ts wide and big. setting of 1920 X 1200 nets a stretched image, text and icons by about 10% or so. Nothing else at a reasonable lower res with an aspect ratio of 1.77 to try. Also no matter what I mess with in the properties and the associated sub menus seem to make the text and icons look sharp, just looks fuzzy like my glasses are not on. Can't seem to get everything small enough as well, not to bad but could be still 1\2 size of what I am displaying now inorder to take advantage of the monitors large real estate. Got everthing set as small as I can ecxept for fonts, anything less than 8 is still large enough but to fuzzy to read, looks lousy. Certain charitors in paticular display worse than others, an italic "i" for example is realy very poor but a regular lower case "u" is good to fair.
FYI: If I don't run this monitor in the native res of 1920 X 1080 booted under WXP it looks lousy as well but not quite this lousy.
I see there are several drivers out there for this vidio card I have for Linux. I seems a bit intimidating as a new user to try installing one. more afraid of not being able to reinstall the one I got if the new one bombs. Done a bit of reading and it seems quite a few conflict between difrent kernels and distros.
Any suggestions?
Thanks, Jon |
