I just got one of these as a loaner to see if I could make it go in Linux. One of those "Mac is better than Linux" conversations. A small bet involved. I won. Details of the item here. It's designed to take written info on a standard notepad and put it into a file for you to manipulate or store. Good way of storing notes if you don't want to paper file. You can also draw on it, etc. Stores lots of pages with added SD card. They sell for ~150$ I think.

It comes with a bunch of disks. You do not need them. Here's what I did to make it go. It took about 20 mins to figure it out. First, you need the following python program: http://graphics.tudelft.nl/~jorik/top2svg.py.

Second, I installed inkscape from Xandros Networks. I had geekconnection.org respository as well as standard Xandros enabled. That's all.

Take your notes, when done, if you plug the pad into USB it will come up as a removable drive. The notes will be stored page by page in a ",top" format. Copy the file(s) to your harddrive, then open a console (from tools in Xandros File Manager works fine). Then invoke
Code:
$ python top2svg.py a01.top > a01.svg
I made the top2svg prog executable before running it. Open the .svg file with inkscape and you can do with it as you will. I saved it in pdf myself. I get tea and a doughnut for winning this bet. Very Happy

There is another .top file converter called TopScribe.jar, which is a java program. It wants different java than I have, so I just moved on to the top2svg. If I was doing this a lot a batch program for conversion would be the way to go I think.

I tried the windows disks in a VMware winxp. Works okay, and no command line, but the pdfs only open in acrobat not Post Script Viewer so I'm not interested in that very much. I like a light weight viewer.

I had to register just to thank you for pointing to this python script. I bought an Adesso Cyberpad a couple years ago, and have hardly used it because I couldn't use the files on my Linux computers.

I'll be saving top2svg.py script to the internal memory of my cyberpad, that way I always have it with me where ever I take it.

Now, if I can just get it to work like a tablet..
