| Does anyone have a clue why the serial port is not being detected in the new open source software? |

maybe a bios issue
check your bios setup to see if they are enabled _________________ the only stupid question there is is the question that is not asked!

| Since this works fine with other distributions, including Xandros, I don't see how this could be the problem |

It seems to me this has been mentioned elsewhere on the forums. It's with version 4.5, right? That was originally intended for the EeePC; maybe they left the serial stuff out of it? | This was the latest version of the free, open source Xandros software. I had to uninstall it since I use serial modems. I had to go back to Xandros Pro which has problems with CD ROM support with newer hardware. It was easier for me to get around this using flash drives. |
