| So I'm a noob at Linux and the subject is self-explanatory. I really need a complete walk through on how to get a N64 Emulator running on my EEE pc while running Xandros. Now I have not come into this blind I've done my research. I think the program I want to use is Mupen64. I've tried using it but all results end in failure. It seems to run the rom but no video or sound appear so I'm stumped. If you all have any other ways they are welcome to. I really just want this to work! |

Understand that emulators for linux are not as perfected as they are for Windows.
I no longer use Xandros as my main distro (I have since switched to another Debian variant called Sidux), and I have trouble with emultors for the Sega Genesis a lot.
There are lots of folks who work to port these to Windows...not so many who work on porting them to linux.
If indeed you have found someone who is working on a emulator for linux...you might want to reward their efforts with a few bucks here and there to encourage them to keep working on the project.
Lots of these folks do it out the the goodness of their own hearts....ncertainly not for the money

theres an repositoy for xandros emulation issues totaly compatible, on http://www.triviazus.com/venenux/vnzpacks
it seems to be something wrong in the page description but the sources.list entry fixed are :
deb http://triviazus.com/venenux/vnzpacks/piccoro ./
it comes with mupen64 and mupen64plus, also comes with many upgrades for xandros desktop, but its recomended use apotitude and manage the updates..
but install mupen64 is quite easy, only type after added the line previously this command:
apt-get install mupen64 mupen64-i18n mupen64plus mupen64-video-gln64
this install all necesary and around 10 plugins for emulation nintendo 64

Warning:
Quoting from this page:

this repository is "for etch and lenny" and as such would not be suited for use on Xandros 4.x, which is based on Debian Sarge. Beware, installing from this repository may trash your system. _________________ I refuse to live in a country like this - and I'm not leaving. - Michael Moore |

This should work for the original poster (using an eee PC) and anyone using Xandros 4.5 as both are based on Etch. _________________
