|

Hi Everyone,
I've got myself and eee PC ( a micro laptop ) with 20GB of Solid state hdd a while ago and have been using it with great joy and happiness until I ran out of space on the prime partition : / , /ro which are ext2.
reading stuff on the net, seems like I've got a few options:
a) resizing the prime partition. The issues I have, is that I don't have a CD Rom drive, or a floppy drive on my laptop. So can't put a bootable partition-magic or gparted disk in and then repartition. Is it possible to boot using a USB Stick
b) Symlinking some of the system folders to the other partition. I'm not sure if this is a safe thing to do.
c) removing some of the software. I can get rid of the games, but un-installing them using Synaptic means uninstalling a whole lot of asus software (e.g. asus-updater and a handful of other things which look useful)
I tried removing some software using synaptic but they rarely add any space after being removed.
Can someone give me some hints on what I can do to sort out this issue. Any suggestions appreciated.
Thanks,
Shuku |

Thanks mate,
This is quite helpful. Is it generally safe to increase the size of the main partition ? Anything I should be aware of ? |

Ext2 has a maximum size of 2 TiB on 32 bit systems, so I don't think there will be any issues unless partitions get moved.. Even then, it is likely that everything should be okay. Ext2 is the preferred Linux filesystem for flash media, so converting it to ext3 would not gain anything, and actually increases wear and tear on the drive... Just an FYI.
Good luck, and let us know how things turned out! _________________
