Not sure if others would be interested or not but here is how I have been setting up the latest OCE on my systems.

Custom install take over disk no isdn, chinese fonts, or crossover
First boot go through wizard launch control center
display > theme > fonts: general 12, fixed 12, menu 11, desktop 11 bold
network > network connection > administrator: create > local area network - wireless: set up my network and name it Home Wireless Network.
Windows networks > administrator: make changes switch user to share
laptop battery > scroll to ACPI Config > setup helper application: enable hibernation, enable performance profiles
Boot manager > Administrator: auto start to 3 seconds

I then go into Xandros networks and install all the applications I want from the new applications section as no matter what I do I always hose Xandros networks on 4.5.

I install the converted programs I got from Geekydude's website

superkaramba_3.5.5-5_i386.deb
xandros-sun-jre1.6_1.6.0+update03-3_i386.deb
Java update 10 is available but for what I use it for update 3 works fine so I haven't bothered to upgrade.

I then add the following to /etc/apt/sources.list
deb http://www.debian-multimedia.org etch main
deb http://www.geekconnection.org/ xandros4 main
and do an apt-get update and then apt-get -f install to finish setting up my programs.

I then comment out Geeky's site by adding a # in front of it
# deb http://www.geekconnection.org/ xandros4 main
Then I do an aptget update and apt-get upgrade
If you leave Geeky's site uncommented it upgrades the boot splash and I prefer Xandros' myself but if you have a specific issue you can certainly try the newer one.
I then install synaptic
apt-get install synaptic
In order to use synaptic as an end user I open a konsole and type xhost + and then su to root and launch synaptic this way. When all the programs I want are installed I just type xhost - to reset the system.

I then rename /usr/lib/firefox to /usr/lib/firefox.old and unzip the latest 2 series Firefox into /usr/lib I am currently using 2.0.0.18 as it works best for me.
A couple of reasons that I like this method is it is 1 easy, 2 the system is already setup to look here so no extra work.

The "hosing" should be history with the improved
"XD 4.5 CD" version, at www.geekconnection.org
It also comes with NTFS write support, "Synaptic"
and desktop themes. Plus some other bug fixes.

Anyway, these tips and tricks are gold worth!

Great tips Tek. Glad to see you again Doc. Have not seen you a lot on the forum latley. I thought maybe you had found another distro to play with. I have downloaded your 4.5 CD and I now have a spare rig to install it on. Think we will see a Xan 5 in 2009? Happy holidays!

Hi SarahsDad! No - havent switched to an/y
other distribution/s for either work, play, friends
or customers. That wasnt necessary after the
enhancing and making of "4.5 CD".

Have had very much work lately, so internet
isnt top priority. Anyway "XD 5.0" is supposed
to be released after "Debian Lenny" is out. So,
the waiting isnt still over...

While Xandros may not run on the absolute latest hardware I have it running here on dual core systems with sata drives with no problem. It would be nice to have a few updated programs but Xandros still stacks up against newer distros for me. I plan on sticking around and when released Xandros 5 should take us into the foreseeable future.

At least he is staying out of trouble, we hope Very Happy Tell him we said hello and we miss him.
I just installed your version of 4.5OCE CD on my spare rig and so far so good. Looks and works very well. Didn't you post somewhere what packages you stripped out to get it down to CD size? I know the office suite was one, just added that back in. Good job. If you are not on Xandros payroll, you should be! Wink

Did you install OO3 or the Xandros one? OO3 works great.

No, I installed the xandros version. I was not sure OO3 would work on 4.5. Anything special you have to do to get OO3 to install?

Uninstall the old "OpenOffice. Download "Linux DEB" package from
http://download.openoffice.org/other.html#en-US Unpack the "tar.gz".
Finally install all the "DEB" files within "Xandros Networks".

ok, so 3.0 does not automaticaly remove 2.3 from the system?

All the many small splitted packages of "OpenOffice" should normally be replaced.
But never take for granted that packages from other sources than "Debian/Xandros"
are correctly "Debianized". Therefor, use "Synaptic" for removing all parts of "OOo",
before installing new ones. Its better to be safe than sorry.

It doesn't seem to it doesn't seem to understand it is an upgrade. Plus you can't install the new menu items with the old ones still installed.
