I'm new to this forum, and relatively new to Xandros as well (I've mostly been a GNOME user)
Anyway, I got a EEE PC for Christmas and have been using it regularly. However, I was wondering if anyone could tell me if I can run different workspaces on this particular version of Xandros. I know this is probably a dumb question, but I've been so used to Ubuntu, I don't know how to switch workspaces on Xandros on the Eee PC, if I can at all. Thanks! |

I am interested in buying the same notebook, how do you like it? Where can I find a list of the 40+ built in programs, even the official site does not list them. Is this a special version of Xandros? is it "water downed", would it be posible to install a full version or is it even upgradeable?
Thanks..........PS.....Could you reformat the notebook and run any other Linux(Xubuntu) w/o problems? _________________ When the rich wage wars, its the poor who die... |

Checkout forum.eeeuser.com for additional answers. I have my eeepec set to advanced mode - instructions on the eeeuser forum. It acts and looks like normal Xandros. You can put many flavours of Linux on it. It will even (gasp) accept window$. You can have multiple desktops just like regular Xandros. I think this is what is meant my 'workspaces'. _________________ War doesn't determine who's right - only who's left. |

| I want the ASUS Eee to stay on and connected to the internet when I close the lid. Does Xandros permit a "do nothing" power setting like Windows does? Or is there another way? |

The shut off of the eeepc when you close the lid is a switch that is moved in the hinges I think. The switch then activates the sleep/suspend mode. I haven't tried it on my eeepc and don't know if the kde power utility is actually working. Maybe you could open the eeepc up and disable the switch. People are doing alot of hardware jigging with the eeepc.
But....
Go to control centre-power management and see if any of the options work. I'll bet they don't and this is hard-coded into the eeepc. Realize that the window$ utility was a software trick that allowed manufacturers to stop putting hardware in to do it. The people at forum.eeepcuser.com may be of more assistance. This is a unique computer with unique software. _________________ War doesn't determine who's right - only who's left. |

I have never used Linux or Xandros before but i am very interested in getting an Eee PC Laptop.
Is it possible to Remote Access from the Eee PC to my work computer (my work computer is on a windows server)? I know in Windows XP all i have to do is enter in an IP address. |

I don't use windows but have remote accessed a Xandros computer that itself is remote accessing another Xandros computer. So I do know remote access works easily 1 and 2 steps removed. _________________ War doesn't determine who's right - only who's left. |

Is it fairly easy to use the remote access?
Also do you of a website that give a good description of what you can do with Xandros? Or is it best to just ask questions here? |

Launch-applications-system-remote desktop sharing with options of share mysdesktop and connect to desktop. It has another one called remote windows connection. It all works lickedy split. Set up the shared machine to share its desktop and connect to it. I connect my using a password, and not with sent out invitation option. On share my desktop, using 'configure' option. Then give a password and you are done. I don't know how it is done in windows. _________________ War doesn't determine who's right - only who's left. |
