Latest version of "Opera Web Browser" (9.50) is available.

Download it here: http://www.opera.com/download/
"XD 2.0/2.5/3.0/4.0/4.1/4.2" = opera_9.50.sarge-qt3_i386.deb
"EEEPC/XD 4.5/XS 2.0" = opera_9.50.etch-qt4_i386.deb
Language packs are now included.

Experienced linking problems with the "Etch" version (of 9.50)
and had to manually search for the correct version.

I've always *wanted* to love Opera, but from Xandros 3 on, I've never had it really "look" good- the fonts are bad, the graphics don't render well, it's just uncomfortable for me to use.
I'm sure it's a configuration problem, which I hate becasue it does seem like a great browser.

I agree, but I am using 9.5 with Xandros 4.5OCE right now. it looks great, as good as Firefox. So far it works a lot better than previuos versions of opera. It is growing on me

"Opera 9.5" is indeed an improvement. Its available as an "QT3" version for
older distributions. And in "QT4" for newer ones. Difference in looks is huge.

Theres now an security and stability update, available
for "Opera 9.5": http://www.opera.com/download/linux/
Remember to use the "Etch" variant for "Xandros 4.5".

Information about changes:

Thanks Doc. I have had Opera crash on me a few times lately, maybe this update will help.

Trying out "Opera" now Cool
So far after testing "Opera 9.5" I found it less stable than "Firefox 3"
And "Firefox 3" is faster and more secure as well.
I really miss my "Firefox" addons like "Foxmarks" and "cool iris" "adblock plus" and many others. Crying or Very sad

Otherwise the "fast choise" function in "Opera 9.5" is pretty nice, and the built-in "Torrent Application" is nice to have.

Still a win for "Firefox 3" over "Opera 9.5" imo

It's funny- I have a few minor issues on Kubuntu x64 with Java applets- the icedtea java isn't quite complete.
But... some applets work fine with Opera and not FF3, which I don't understand, as they both use the same java engine, I think.

I've been using Opera 9.5 since the first beta and all around it is a decent browser, and I would certainly say the best in the market at the present time.

I love the new default skin they applied for the final release and find it to be both faster and more stable than firefox.

Mind you I dislike Firefox anyway, and have been using Opera since V4 or V5 I dont remember which now!

Firefox does have a distinct advantage: Firebug; but otherwise Opera for day to day usage and Firefox for CSS debugging.

I have it installed and it's nice and runs reasonably well. Still prefer Firefox though. Thanks for the information and download Doctore.

Opera 9.52 is now available. It has some security updates, so I recommend all Opera users go and grab it.

And Opera Dragonfly is starting to compete with Firebug Smile I am actively using it for development. Not quite stable yet; but getting there pretty rapidly. Go to http://dragonfly.opera.com for more details and a rather wicked "Debug" menu for Opera 9.5+ Smile

DOC YOU DA MAN!!!!
I tried installing the recommended Xandros .deb from Opera.com and it wouldn't install. Etch's version installed flawlessly.

Somewhere in one of your posts you mentioned you had combined Xandros and Mepis repositories to keep your Xandros distro updated.
Do you have a link to a posting on how you did this.....or do you care to explain again for the umpteenth time??
I have dropped in from time to time....but tonight I downloaded 4.5 from geekconnection.org.
I have been using Sidux extensively....I have used Ubuntu, to the point that I HATE brown and orange LOL!
I appreciate your input in this manner.

I have tried numerous Linux distros just for fun but I always keep coming back to Xandros. Xandros is useable, stable and has that polish that makes you want to use it. At first I liked the brown and orange of Ubuntu. I thought it was a refreshing change from the usual colors but I guess you just can't go wrong with blue. Because I too got tired of the brown and orange and prefer the traditional blue.

Like you I used to always come back to Xandros.
My problem with the distro now is not so much that it signed the deal with Micro$ith....but that its kind of outdated.
I have attemtped to keep it somewhat updated before and broken it.
I like some aps like Wine-Doors that I haven't been able to run in Xandros.
Thus for most of the past two years I used Ubuntu mostly....then I fell for Sidux.
Sidux is rock solid stable....and I have no problems with it....I just felt like picking up Xandros again to see what I have missed.
