|
|
4.1 pro had kfax installed but 4.5 OCE does not. I tried to install but not found in the xandros repos?? found it in backports and mepis repos but when I mark for install it says it wants to remove a lot of xandros specific stuff?? no go for me. Found it also in geekyudude repo and when I mark for install it says depends libqt3c102-mt. I found that and tried to install but it wants to remove a bunch of stuff?? why so much fuss over a little program like kfax. If it was in 4.1 pro, why can not it be installed in 4.5 OCE? _________________ Moving On Up....to Ubuntu 10.04 |

"Debian Sarge" (Xandros Desktop 3.0/4.0) uses dependies which "Debian Etch"
(Xandros 4.5/EeePC/Server 2.0) doesnt. "DEB-files" normally contains necessary
information for the APT-system so it can take care of dependency issues.
Anyway, take the "Xandros 4.1" package and use the "Alien-trick" (DEB>RPM>DEB).
It should take care of the problem. _________________ Linux User #432929

I have tried the alien trick and for the life of me cannot get it to work. I always get file not found but I enter the deb file exactly as it is and still it always comes back file not found. Do not know what I am doing wrong. _________________ Moving On Up....to Ubuntu 10.04 |

Result of copying and converting "kfax" from "XD41" CD:
| Code: | xandros:~/kfax# ls
kfax_3.4.2.13-2_i386.deb
xandros:~/kfax# alien -r --scripts *.deb
kfax-3.4.2.13-3.i386.rpm generated
xandros:~/kfax# alien --scripts *.rpm
kfax_3.4.2.13-4_i386.deb generated
xandros:~/kfax# dpkg -i kfax_3.4.2.13-4_i386.deb
Selecting previously deselected package kfax.
(Reading database ... 188883 files and directories currently installed.)
Unpacking kfax (from kfax_3.4.2.13-4_i386.deb) ...
Setting up kfax (3.4.2.13-4) ... |
Start command is "kfax" (no qoutes).
Hopes this helps... _________________ Linux User #432929

I got cocky and tried same trick with digikam. it seem to install ok with no errors but when I tried to launch it from the menu it would not open. tried it from a console and got this error output.
tim@timothy2:~$ digikam
digikam: error while loading shared libraries: libkipi.so.0: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory

OK, so you do not have to do the alien trick for digikam, just get from one of these repos and install? _________________ Moving On Up....to Ubuntu 10.04 |

Those repositories worked at least with the first release of "XD4.5".
Recommends "Synaptic" (what else) for such excercises... _________________ Linux User #432929

Wow is DigiKam nice!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Thanks Doctore for the repos list. BTW: looks like the tuxfamily site has some issues.
Also, I didn't even know if I had a chance with this digital camera-Bell & Howell BH41. DigiKam picked it up-listed it as an Argus DC-2200-and I was able to get the images and such. lsusb lists it as a : Tiger Electronics Fast Flicks Digital Camera. I was really hoping the DigiKam team was going to come though with this. When they listed over 900 digital camera's through the Gphoto2 project, I had reason to hope.
So much for needing this on my XP Pro partition to work!

Some of the packages at http://download.tuxfamily.org/ are compiled against
newer dependies, than standard in "Xandros 4.5". In that case, enable an/some
"EeePC" repository/ies to get the correct package. Recommends "Synaptic"
and its "Download Package Files Only" function to test these. _________________ Linux User #432929

Thanks Doctore!
I will try them. Please note that the tuxfamily sites give me a public key error when I try to apt-get update or reload on Synaptic.
