I hope someone can help me with CDBakeOven, which I just downloaded. It looks very intuitive, but I'm having one problem that I can't seem to figure out a way around. I select "Create a new music CD" from the wizard. I then navigate to the folder with my songs and select the songs I want. The minor problem is that it's copying them over as mp3's; not as wav files. Do I have to convert them myself, or does CDBakeOven do it for me, like Nero and Adaptec do? And if I have to convert them, what utility can I use to do it?
But I actually have a more major problem. When I go to burn a CD with anything on it, I receive the message "Temporary directory does not have enough space available for storing disk image. Please remove some files from the list or choose another location through the 'Settings Dialog'." - EVEN IF I ONLY PUT ONE SONG ON THE CD. I've already increased the size of the directory to 2 GB; saved the change and closed and restarted CDBakeOven, but it makes no difference. I tried creating a new directory, but get the error message "This directory has less space then (sic) minimum. Use it anyway?" What do I have to do to burn music CD's.
Thanks for your help.

| Go to the "Settings" menu and the select "configure CDBakeOven". Click on "Costumize Defaults" on the left and then uncheck the "Check size when necessary" box. Hope this helps. |

I installed CDBakeOven and it is pretty slick but I have one problem. I went in and built a play list of audio files and then when I get to the screen with the button on to actually start the burn, it is greyed out so I can't initiate the burn. I am obviously doing something wrong, but I am getting no error messages and I can't see what I am doing wrong.
Any help will be appreciated, _________________ Ed Richards

CDBakeoven version 1.8 does NOT support burning of Audio CD's...
This is the cause of both your problems.
It's not converting the MP3 to WAV, because it's preparing to write a DATA Cd, rather than Audio CD.
For the same reason, even if you FORCE it to audio, it simply can't burn them.
Unfortunately, there is no work around. Audio Burning is supported in version 2.0 of CDBakeoven, which requires KDE3.1 and up.
So if you want to use CDBAkeOven (Which I do want to use on a regular basis! darnit!) you have to either get a distro that supports KDE3.1 (Mandrake) or use the Technology Preview of Xandros and update KDE from 3.0.3 to 3.1.
But I think you break a lot of Xandros features if you use the TP. (like Fast User Switching, and XFM, though I think Xandros Update and Networks still work) |

Even with KDE 3.1 CD Bake Oven will not install because of depencies that are in Unstable.
You can use K3B though which is just as good, maybe better.
You still need to take the plunge to KDE 3.1 though.
cid, is correct in that you will lose XFM, Fast user switching (where's that script?), and will loose Xandros Update.
Xandros Networks still works (as good as it ever did) but I use Kpackage whcich I'm starting to like quite a bit.
Konqueror is nice once you have it set up.
KDE 3,1 is really sweet though.
I made a backup before taking the plunge so I can tinker but I don't ever want to go back.
You sure get an appreciation of the work Xandros has done when you lose their features though.
There are a llot of little suttle things that Xandros puts into their Distro that make a huge difference in the way you use your system.
People, like myself, who are new to Linux, might just take them for granted till thier gone. |

I got the script working, though it was optimized for Mandrake, then I saw something cool, and posted a ? to a Mandrake forum.
Now I've got a better way to do it.
Unforunately, I'll be gone all weekend, so I won't be able to do much with it until later in the week.
But when it is working flawlessly, I'll post it here. The thing I'm trying to do with the help at Mandrake forum, is to get KDM to come up when you hit CTRL-ALT-F1, that will alleviate the need for 90% of my script.
In Mandrake, when you reboot, you first get a flash of a virtual console, but then KDM quickly comes up. I'm trying to figure out how the heck that happens, so I can simulate it for all CTRL-ALT-F1 virtual console sessions.
