Apparently no one else has had any success with it either; it is listed in the OpenPrinting database as "Paperweight."

Lexmark and Canon are probably about the worst as far as Linux support. I like to say their printers come in 3 varieties: Paperweight, Doorstop, and Boat Anchor. There are some Lexmarks that work, and some Canons that work, but overall, their Linux support is pathetic.

I have both of these printers on a windows network. I'm searching for drivers for both. Is there a specific Linux brand that is printer driver compatable with XandrOS?
Right now I'm hard wired to the router but will try to get my wireless set up in the near future.

The best place for information on printers for Linux is:
http://www.linux-foundation.org/en/OpenPrinting
Both the Lexmark E238 and the Samsung CLX-3160FN are listed as working mostly, but I don't know if Xandros has the drivers built in it or not. They could probably be installed if they're not built in, but I don't know the details.

As far as brand of printer- I really like Brother. They are actively working on Linux drivers- both printing and scanner.
I just replaced my Brother MFC5440CN with an MFC7820N laser. Took me less than 10 minutes using the brother supplied packages and instruction.
That laser is *fast*- black and white only, but speed and low cost per page are a winner for me (the Brothers don't do photo printing very well)- an all in one ethernet networked laser fax/scanner/printer for $200 was just too much to pass up. _________________ --

Samsung routinely supplies an installation disk that is specifically tailored for Linux. Though the actual GUI they supply does screw up Xandros per http://forums.xandros.com/viewtopic.php?t=32911& The drivers from the disks will work well though. I have a brother all in one and a samsung laser. _________________ War doesn't determine who's right - only who's left. |

| I,ve had no success with lexmark in Xandros but I have been using an Epson Stylus Colour 460 (about 3 years old) It was very easy to set up and runs with no trouble whatsoever. I used an epson C40+ before also with no hassle. |
