My computer has worked great for a number of years. I have enjoyed Xandros 4! Last week, I received a message stating that there was Kernel Panick! Unable to do anything else, I saved what I could using another program, then reinstalled Xandros. I then reinstalled SP1 and SP2. When I tried to connect to the internet there was no hope. Having nothing else to loose, I then reinstalled Xandros, then SP1. I then opened the connection wizard, and it crashed. I clicked on backtrack, and here's what happened:

I am using a Dell Inspiron 8600. When I tried to open hardware detection to confirm that I am using IntelPro?? hardware detection crashed.

Any advice?
Thanks,

Had you changed anything (hardware or software) before this happened?

9/14 I replaced my DVD rom drive because the old one went blind.

I replaced my hard drive 9/15 because it almost full, I bought the new one from ebay. It had no problems until dark Friday.

Apart from this, it's just been regular use: thunderbird, firefox, star office being the major applications that I use. With the windows particion -I seldom use it but who knows what MS has put there without my consent.

If I format the Xandros partition, and the first thing that I do is step 1, -it appears to me that software should not be an issue -unless it has damaged the hardware?? -just an afterthought

I really don't like installing service packs, not for Xandros & definately not for Windows XP.

Check with Xandros support; they might let you download an updated Xandros 4 ISO with SP2 already integrated; for some reason OSes seem to be more stable when updates are integrated with the Install CD (probably becuase their no configurations to update).

Xandros 3.0.2 was well known for this kind of issue. Wink
