|
Hi,
I'm trying to get this all-in-one printer working. It's a USB printer and it is found by the wizard but the model number doesn't come up. I have it set to:
Device USB Printer #1HP Officejet 5600 series
HP Officejet 5500, Foomatic + hpijs
The path is:
/dev/usb/lp0
I installed the xandros-hpoj driver.
I am using Desktop 2.0.
Thanks,

The 5610 is supported by the HPLIP drivers. See the website here:
http://hplip.sourceforge.net/
I don't know if those drivers will run in Xandros 2 or not. My mother has a 5610, not the xi model, and it works fine in Xandros 4, both printing and scanning. I don't remember what I had to do to get it working. According to the HPLIP website, version 0.9.5 or higher of the HPLIP drivers is required for that printer. However, I see that the version available in XN is 0.9.2-2, so I'm guessing that I must have installed a newer version of HPLIP on my mom's computer to get the 5610 working.
The latest version of HPLIP is available here:
http://hplip.sourceforge.net/downloads.html
I have doubts that it will work on X2, but I could be wrong. They also have earlier version available here:
http://sourceforge.net/project/showfiles.php?group_id=149981&package_id=165777
Maybe one of those versions will install on X2 and work for you.
Debian also has a DEB package of it available here:
Debian HPLIP package v1.6.10
There is also a DEB package available from Debian Backports:
http://backports.org/debian/pool/main/h/hplip/
Let us know if you get it working, others may want to know.

Man, what a nightmare!
I have never had luck with sourceforge deb packages. I tried installing it but failed miserably like I thought it would. So I decided to do it the HARD way.
I got the source code and tried to build it but I had to install a bunch of s**t. libraries, devs, etc. Then it wanted net-snmp which is not on XN so I got the source code for that, another nightmare. Took me an hour to compile that! That required a bunch s**t too. So after all that crap I get the damn hplip to build and what do I get for all my effort?
ira:~# /usr/lib/cups/backend/hp
/usr/lib/cups/backend/hp: error while loading shared libraries: libnetsnmp.so.15: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory
SUCK!
i don't understand that because the snmp stuff built and tested ok.
I just want a decent printer, you know? Man this is reeally disappointing!

Okay, I forgot about LD_LIBRARY_PATH, duh!
So, I got past that but now it's saying:
kira:~/src/net-snmp-5.4.1# /usr/lib/cups/backend/hp
unable to open /var/run/hpiod.port: No such file or directory: prnt/hpijs/hplip_api.c 84
unable to connect hpiod socket 50000: Connection refused: prnt/hpijs/hplip_api.c 702
This is probably not the best place to post this. I'll prbably have to find an HP forum or something, any ideas?
Thanks,
