Hi! I'm new to linux. I downloaded Xandros 4.1 Pro and been trying to installed it for days. I always runs into this error message "No hard disk drives detected. Error Code : 4000". The hardware specs, Motherboard Asus P5VD2-VM, RAM 1GB, HDD 160GB SATA2, Pentium 4 Core 2 Duo.

I already disable SATA Raid on the Bios and add "ide=nodma" on the default setup, but still doesn't work. I need help.

Thanks.

Its probably an driver problem. Try to connect the SATA2 harddisk to the JMicron SATA_RAID1
controller port (its between the Back Panel I/O Ports and VIA P4M900 North Bridge) instead of the
VIA 8237A controller ports and see if that helps.

then again it could be the hard drive...
I have encountered the same problem that you just reported. I could install Xandros 3 on the drive, and even Windows XP...
It turns out that there is some kind of disk error....I have run chdsk with all kinds of repair options....to no avail.
The good news is that hard drives are getting relatively cheaper.
You can pick one up from ebay for a song now.

kawi and EarthBoundMisfit. ASUS M2V-MX AM2 K8M890 MATX
motherboard with the same southbridge chipset have similar issues.
Have tested different "BIOS" versions, SATA drives and "boot options".
Got it solved by using the JMicron SATA_RAID controller. Another
way is to use an IDE (ATA) harddisk.
