I purchased this printer because I could get it to work in Xandros 2.0. Now that I have "upgraded" to 3.0, it will not work. I have tried everything that I know of to make it work. I can get Xandros to see the printer, but it will not send anything to it. It is now connected through a network (which I configured the same way when I was using 2.0). I tried going direct with a parallel cable, it saw it as the correct printer, but would not send any packets through. I have a feeling it has something to do the ZjStream, but am not positive. If I tell Xandros that it is a generic postscript printer, it will print the test page, but it is about 100 pages long-all code. I am at a total loss-I spent $400 on this nice printer, which is now a very expensive paper weight. Any ideas would be greatly appreciated.

Michael

Yes, I've had this problem for quite some time now. Not only Xandros but on all my Tux boxes. However, I did get it to work today. I connect through my LAN and here's what worked for me...

Go to http://foo2zjs.rkkda.com and download foo2zjs to a directory you can easily find. You can follow the directions on the web page to expand and make the files.
Now in Xandros I didn't install the whole file but I had to in SuSE.
In Xandros I went to Control Center and Add a Printer.
I chose Network Printer.
Network Type: Other
Name: Magicolor
Connection: AppSocket/HP JetDirect (socket)
Host Name: socket://xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx:9100/lp (with the xxx being your printer address)
Manufacturer: Minolta
Model: magicolor 2300 DL
Driver: click on Have PPD
Now navigate to the directory that you downloaded and expanded the foo2zjs in. Navigate to the PPD folder and select the Minolta magicolor 2300 DL ppd. Click Next. Try and run a test print. If it does print it'll be black and white. Go into printer properties and change it to color.
My text and color is really quite good. Better than I expected.

I'm not sure if this is important or not but I had installed an HP printer driver with JetDirect support from the Xandros Network just before I did the above configuation.

Hope this helps.

Bob

Have you tried the patch for parallel port problems? See this post:

Brilliant - I had been pratting around with various settings and could not get this printer to work over my windows network. Followed the instructions in the post above and it worked FIRST TIME. The bit that made all the difference was

Host Name: socket://192.168.0.3:9100/lp

where the IP address is where my printer sits. I had tried the IPP protocol and HTTP protocol to no avail, the socket bit made all the difference - where do you learn this stuff???

Many thanks, what looked like two days effort turned into a couple of minutes. thank god for the forum

As a PS to the above, I'm running Xandros 3.0.2 OCE, where my Xandros box is acting as a file server to my windows network. Did not need to download anything from foo2zis.rkkda.com as the printer drivers for this printer seem to be already installed in 3.0.2 OCE.

Many thanks again Bob

The above worked for me with Xandros Business Edition 3.02 and my Magicolor 2430DL. Now, in XPro4, it's not working. Any ideas? The symptom is a failure to print anything. The printer jobs window shows all the jobs as "aborted."

Many thanks in advance for any help....
