just "upgraded", added software.
My desktop settings have been clobbered. Firefox bookmarks flew the coop. Who knows yet what else!
Start from scratch? or defect? |

tincomar. What did you actually upgrade?
An unwritten rule is to only use "Xandros Distribution Site" when
upgrading the system. And when installing or upgrading from other
"Not Supported" sources you have to be careful about what you
are upgrading and also the dependies. Otherwise you might
end up with an unusable system

EVERYTHING done at the Xandros site....!!!!
uninstalled the windows emulator, added gpm and a few other utils. Did NOTHING to Firefox or KDE desktop. I then got a message that the uni kernel is being replaced with the smp kernel -- so then I re-installed the uni kernel (who needs the smp kernel with a AMD K6-2 anyway????)
First of all, I noticed that 4 desktops had been reset to the default of 2; then I noticed that - when trying to go to a bookmark which I had added (to jump directly to Xandros Forums) - ALL of my added bookmarks were gone.... AND the Home page was reset to home.xandros.com ...... |

Could it possible be that the kernel change procedure "resets" at least
some settings to default? Have only replaced kernels (UNI>SMP) directly
after installation of the operating system so I cant verify it.
Its always an good idea making safetycopys of important documents and
settings before doing more advanced up or downgrades (doesnt remember
that myself either).
Anyway. There isnt any difference between UNI or SMP kernel when having
single core CPU. ONLY when its an dual core or two processors.

I think it's XProf. version 4....
another thing: /etc/lilo.conf also got "modified".... I had replaced the line "vga=791" with "vga=normal" --- It was reset back to "vga=791".
Aside: what is the purpose and function of /etc/lilop.conf ? |

Hi tincomar, "/etc/lilop.conf" is some kind of backup for "lilo.conf".
