Anybody else install steam (with the help of Cross Over Office)? I installed it just for kicks last night, I bought Half-Life, SiN Episodes (which came with the Original SiN Game on My Windows Machine Last Year.) Well I got Sin the original game working perfectly, would these other games work? As in are they dependent on Direct X? Cause SiN runs on OpenGL.

I've only tried the half-life based games which work great except for a few bugs (sometimes I have to go to menu and out lest the mouse stays and for some games my settings must be set each time).

I just wanted to know if Sin Episodes worked before I downloaded it since it is almost a 3 gig file, well...I downloaded it anyway. I got Sin Episodes to work (as long as you dont mess with some of the video settings which borked it on one occasion). I think I will just play it on windows instead Sad. Sin the original Works perfectly though, my favorite PC Game of All Time. Smile

If you really like SiN, you can get a linux-native version at www.tuxgames.com. You will also likely have to install the SDL rpm's that come with the game to play it, but they convert and install just fine. I like the game too, especially the hidden stuff Smile

Wow it still costs that much!!! Don't get me wrong I would buy it if I didn't already own it twice the original windows release, and on steam. Not to mention some of those other old school games like heretic 2 and Heavy Metal Fakk 2. Very Happy

Dunno... Its a niche Market... 26 bucks doesn't really seem that bad to me, but then again I don't check the Windows bargain bins much... Especially now since all the gaming places only sell console games and I have no reason whatsoever to even muse over the PC games... It's irritating when the best place to get PC games is Wal-Mart.

The last PC game I bought was FEAR, I mostly play games on consoles since I have all three current gen systems (which eats up alot of time), but still it would be nice to play some newer games on Xandros, since It is the only OS I use on a daily basis. Smile

I want to make a shorcut for Alien Arena 2007 in my launch menu but I can't seem to get it to execute in this manner, is there a way to do it? I would appreciate it. Another game I found that works flawlessly when installed through cross over office is Quake 2 I know that you can install this game through Xandros Networks well probably any distro's repository, but at the time I couldn't get the sound to work.

Most legacy games like quake2 require the following command.. artsdsp -m nameofgameexecutable

You will probably first need to make a shell script for AA to work.. The issue is one of the executable not knowing where to find the data files..

Make a script like this, name it something like runaa and put it in the main game directory : (I don't know the name of the AA executable or where you installed the game folder, so you will have to modify my script accordingly. This is a general reference only.

#!/bin/bash
#call this file runaa.
#this gets the shell in the right directory
cd /usr/local/games/alienarena ;
#This runs the executable from the current directory
./alienarena

Then do a chmod 755 /usr/local/games/alienarena/runaa to set it executable, and then set your launch bar to execute /user/local/games/alienarena/runaa instead of the executable.

Hope this helps.

Thanks man! Is there a way to change it so it uses "artsdsp -m" by default? I am sorry you are probably getting sick of me asking questions.

Not really, but you can make a script similar to the one above and put the command in there..

Something similar to this would probably work.:

#!/bin/bash
#call this file q2.
artsdsp -m quake2

Then chmod 755 it and put it in /usr/bin .

When you type q2 at the command prompt it will run the game using artsdsp.

Please don't hesitate to ask questions, as we are happy to help and it saves you time Smile
