This is a list of what drivers support what as of the 9755 driver release.. http://download.nvidia.com/XFree86/Linux-x86/1.0-9755/README/appendix-a.html

Quote:
The 1.0-71xx driver supports the following set of GPUs:
NVIDIA chip name Device PCI ID
RIVA TNT 0x0020
RIVA TNT2/TNT2 Pro 0x0028
RIVA TNT2 Ultra 0x0029
Vanta/Vanta LT 0x002C
RIVA TNT2 Model 64/Model 64 Pro 0x002D
Aladdin TNT2 0x00A0
GeForce 256 0x0100
GeForce DDR 0x0101
Quadro 0x0103
GeForce2 GTS/GeForce2 Pro 0x0150
GeForce2 Ti 0x0151
GeForce2 Ultra 0x0152
Quadro2 Pro 0x0153

So at least according to their most up to date documentation, 7184 should support your card... That being said, I know that some of the Geforce2 cards still worked fine with certain 8xxx drivers, despite them not being supported officially so maybe a later one would work for your card as well... Dunno. Might be worth it if you are well versed in working with X and can backtrack out of a bombed X session.

All non-beta linux drivers are available on this page..

http://www.nvidia.com/object/linux_display_archive.html

Version: 1.0-4191 was the last to include rpms, but I doubt they are 2.6 compatible.

According to the vast list supplied with the 9755 driver under Supported Products not one TNT2 is supported. Information conflict here.

That is correct, the 9755 driver does not support the TNT cards at all, but in the documentation, it does explain which drivers do... Please read my previous post again... In each driver, one can see what products it officially supports (except beta drivers never have accurate information in the documentation) by extracting the archive and reading the documentation.. I understand on dialup, that's a pain so you can instead use the link I provided and change the part of the url that refers to the specific driver number (in this case, 1.0-9755) to another driver number in order to see what that driver supports.. Paging through you might get lucky and find one with the features you need.

The latest available driver for Xandros 3 is Matty's 8174 driver that I revamped to fix some broken symbolic links... Nvidia-settings is not included in the package, so I'm not sure it would help you at all... Here's the link, should you want to try it.. http://www.vogelefamily.info/xandros/nvidia/3.0/xandros-nvidia-modules-2.6.11-x1_1.0.8174.x.1-16_i386.deb

Here's my gut assumption.. Might be right, might be wrong. The Nvidia-settings package included with X3 does not support the features you are wanting to implement.. It is likely those features are in the later versions, and there's a good chance they don't support your TNT card... There may be a third party tool included in certain distros to do what you want, but to my knowledge, Xandros includes no such tool.

You might want to try contacting support (at) Xandros (dot) com and see if they have any ideas.. Other than suggesting to upgrade your card and OS, I'm out of them.

The latest driver that supports TNT2 from all I've been able to find on the Nvidia site is the 6111

I'll stick with getting that to work

Thanks for your help.

Are you sure you aren't looking at some documentation for a windows driver ? I'd hate for you to put something that old on your box.. I'm not sure the 1.0-6111 driver would even support a 2.6.11 kernel..

If you type lsmod and there is the nvidia module, your currently installed driver supports your card, and I'd be pretty hesitant on replacing the driver with an older one.. If that module doesn't show up, then there is a problem somewhere.. You should also be able to use OpenGL screensavers, and they should stream fairly smoothly.... Just some things to check.

Checking the 8174 driver documentation shows it does not support the TNT card, so that idea is out unfortunately..

Redrum, I installed you driver (100.14.03b) last night and it works great. I didn't have any problems, it worked on the first try. I'm using a pair of 8800GTXs. I don't think SLI is working, but that's OK since I'm not using Xandros for gaming. Thanks.

Glad you like the driver Smile

You should be able to enable SLI by right-clicking your desktop, going to properties, then go into the section where you can set the resolution.. I beleive it may be in the 'advanced' button section if it isn't in the main section.

The beta driver now supposedly does support SLI..

redrum,

Any chance I can talk you into writing up wiki's on your drivers and the 3D desktop thing?

I think it would save some trouble, and it would be editable if you wanted to make additions/changes, etc.

These pages are easy to use! Razz

The 100.14.06 beta driver is now available at http://www.vogelefamily.info/xandros/nvidia/4.0/dcc-nvidia-module-2.6.18-dcc-smp-experimental_7.1.0.100.14.06.x.1-1_i386.deb

As it is beta, kid gloves are off.. These are totally unsupported, so if it fails, go into safe video mode, uninstall the driver and install one of the drivers off my 'stable' list instead.. These drivers are for Geforce 5xxx and greater cards only!!

Supposedly this driver addresses certain laptop issues found in the 100.14.03 driver, but are not signifagantly different performance-wise.

Enjoy!

The 100.14.11 beta driver is now available at http://www.vogelefamily.info/xandros/nvidia/4.0/dcc-nvidia-module-2.6.18-dcc-smp-experimental_7.1.0.100.14.11.x.1-1_i386.deb

It supports many of the newer cards, so if you have been waiting for a stable version of the driver for your newer Nvidia card, here it is.

Enjoy!

HI Guys, kudos redrum..... again!

I'm using the stock 100.14.11 nvidia driver with my Asus 8800GTS on both Xandros v4 and Slackware v12. I'm running the XN supported "compiz" on Xandros and Beryl-0.2.1 w/ all the managers and plugins on Slack. The reason I'm even mentioning the Slack install here is because of Beryl and that nobody here has specifically related if they are actually compiling Beryl from tarballs, downloading some unsupported beryl deb, or just running the XN offered compiz 3D desktop. But since at least one person mentioned the altered header bar with no recourse but built in Xandros/KDE themes I'm guessing we're talking about compiz.

First off some usefull additions for nVidia cards to "/etc/X11/xorg.conf" especially if anyone wishes to try to move up to the very worthwhile beryl-0.2.1 or better yet, the newest of the bunch, "compiz-fusion". Here ya go:

Section "Device"
Identifier "Device1"
Driver "nvidia"
VendorName "nVidia Corporation"
BoardName "0193"
Option "AllowGLXWithComposite" "True"
Option "RenderAccel" "True"
Option "AddARGBGLXVisuals" "True"
Option "XAANoOffscreenPixmaps" "true"
Option "TripleBuffer" "true"
EndSection

I haven't yet spent the many hours it would take to do a true one-by-one series of permutations of all possibilities but I have tried each individually and noticed improved stability and/or smoothness w/ each one. I also don't know how much each person might feel with other video cards but it really isn't hard to play with and see what works best for you. This is a composite of tweaks I've found out 'n about that work for me w/ the 8800GTS. The difference is indeed greater on the Slack/Beryl system than it is on the Xandros/ Compiz system, but still quite worthwhile on both. The one exception is the "pixmaps" entry since Beryl with it's own voluminous theme manager (Man! there are some truly gorgeous themes in there!) has a menuitem for selecting pixmap handler. Since the Xandros compiz does not yet have this I have included the xorg.conf line here.

The Youtube Vista-Aero vs/ Ubuntu-Beryl video is a must see even if it doesn't include all the incredible effects that Beryl 0.2.1 can do. Wait till you see the one that turns your desktop into a falling snow scene. Combine that with a mountan scene Desktop Background and it'll drop the jaw of even the most jaded doze or mac fanboy. Even still the Youtube vid is cool so here it is.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nPecBxM2f6c

It is also worthwhile to checkout some of the screenies around of the newer beryl and especially the compiz-fusion plugins. I still have yet to see many of the newer and unsupported plugins and I'm long past bowled over.

Keep up the good work Guys
Jimmy

The 100.14.19 driver is now available at http://www.vogelefamily.info/xandros/nvidia/4.0/dcc-nvidia-module-2.6.18-dcc-smp-experimental_7.1.0.100.14.19.x.1-1_i386.deb

I have labeled it as beta (though the driver itself is not), since I no longer am running Xandros, and therefore cannot test it myself.. Please be warned!!!

This will likely be the last release for 4.x, since the current version of Xandros is too out of date for my current needs at work.

Thanks, Redrum.

Gigabyte GA-M61SME-S2 motherboard
AMD Athlon X2 64bit cpu
On board video Nvidia 6100 and 405 chips.

Recommended drivers NVIDIA-Linux-x86_64-100.14.19-pkg.run plus 23 chapters of instructions!

Used your 100.14.19 driver and it appears to have worked like a charm.
Are there any tests that I can carry out or, more to the point, are there any tests that I can carry out for you?

Many thanks,

martin welsh

Hey, thanks for the heads up, and thanks for the 'thanks" too Smile

When I get a chance, I may still build another driver for Xandros 4.. It mainly depends on whether support for newer cards needs to be added or not.. If the next driver supports at least 4 new cards, I'll consider making a build, but if its more or less just an update, I'll likely pass and wait for 5 to come out.

I do not plan to make any newer packages for Xandros 4 though other than perhaps these few nvidia ones..

You can certainly check out what I have available though.. http://www.vogelefamily.info/xandros

Thanks again for using and giving feedback on my build!
