Hi... i'm havin a problem with the audio in Xandros 4 home primium. Afeter install it there where no problems, but when i upgraded it to SP1 i missed the mixer, so i can't hear anything (i'm very sure that i upgraded it correctly. I followed instructions from the spanish forum about upgrading to SP1).
Here is an image that can help to understand the problem.
As u can notice, the sound card it's correctly detected, but there is no mixer.
Here is the ouput of the lshw command, if it help.

Normally hardware should be better recognised with SP1.
But, try alsaconfig. Open console, type "alsaconf", without qoutes
and follow instructions.

Did you also run "alsaconf" logged in as Administrator (root)
and not as normal user with admin privilegies?

Checked the Spanish section. Alltough im Finnish, but speaks Swedish (!) I didnt understand
everything. Sometimes when hitting the wall an effective solution is to do an fresh install. and then
install the Service Pack. It could be one solution. Having Service Pack burned on CD-Rom speeds up
the procedure. And after that install languagefiles, preferred applications etc.
Greetings, Hälsningar (swedish) Terveisä (finnish)

Search for "mixer" in Xandros Networks and install the mixer of your choice. There are a dozen or so to choose from.

Because of trying to fix Windows problems (too much) at daily work it has
become a bad manner to make security copys, format and install the OS again,
when strange problems appear and no solution seems to work. But at least in
the Windows world its often the fastest and many times best solution.
Something seems to gone terrible wrong with the update. Its fun to search the
problems. Sometimes the solution is easy, but on the other hand it could take more
time than necessary. The easiest and probably fastest solution might be to do an
clean minimal install, add servicepack (from CD), drivers and lastly applications
from Xandros Distribution Site. This takes a few hours, but then your computer
should be as god as new. Maybe...

Are you saying that the mixer simply didn't show up in the Launch menu? Some applications do automatically when you install them, some don't, and you have to add them to the Launch menu manually. When you install a new mixer, if you don't see it in the Launch Menu, click Launch, Run Command..., enter the name of the mixer application, and click Run. If that brings up the mixer, and it works OK for you, then you can add it to the Launch menu by right clicking the Launch button, then click Menu Editor.
If I remember correctly, alsamixer is a console app. To run it in a much nicer graphical application, also install alsamixergui, and run that rather than alsamixer. (You still have to have alsamixer installed, alsamixergui just makes it look a little nicer.)

Hey, just like Linus From what I've heard, about 15 percent of Finns speak Sweedish as their milk tongue. _________________
