OK, this looks very cool, and despite the admonitions above, I have got to try this for my 7900 GT NVidia Card.

Balls to the Wall!

I will be interested to see how this works (if it works) on dual monitors. I have noticed that most Xandros screen savers do not work on both monitors concurrently.

I followed the instructions to the letter, and the spinning desktop really works! Really amazing that you guys can figure out this stuff.

It did not choke my cat (although it annoyed the hell out of my dog), nor did it run off with my wife, and my desktop is not yet a doorstop.

I think I will have to figure out how to reverse the entire process, though. On my system there is an unfortunate side effect. Title bars no longer appear on the top of my windows, and that makes it impossible for me to drag around or resize windows.

On a dual monitor setup this is particularly problematic, because the windows open up by splitting themselves equally between the two monitors, making the information inside the windows difficult or impossible to use.

Disabling the secondary monitor resolves the split screen problem with windows but I am still unable to drag/resize windows. Perhaps I did not install the correct version of the driver. Still, this was a lot of fun.

Hmmm I think you may have not quite edited the xorg.conf file right.. I had that problem the first time myself.. That, or or there is a peculiarity using twin monitors.. If you followed my instructions you should have made a backup of your xorg.conf file.. Simply follow the 'If It bombs" section to undo what has been done.

Hope this helps.

Try installing the 9742 driver, as your card will likely have better support in that driver (I think).

Thanks, I am pretty sure I did install the 9742 driver.

To get things back to normal, all I had to do was disable the video effects in the control center, restart the computer, and reapply all the settings for my 2 monitors.

I notice that, even though the beta driver screen comes up when I restart the computer, I no longer have the option to enable the video effects in the control center.

No harm, no foul. Fun experiment, thanks!

Hey, no problem, sorry it didn't work out for you Sad

The hack provided gets around that problem, which is why one can't re-enable it.. The controls are hard coded to detect the installed card and only allow enabling the card if its on the proper list.. BoyLinux's hack just overrides that applet and manually enables 3d Desktop anyway.

Either driver **Should** work technically, but more cards are supported on the 97xx driver. Being as and how you have 3d with the new driver installed, that shouldn't be an issue.

If you get brave again, I'd be interested to hear the results with newer drivers and such.. Thanks for trying it out Smile

All working well for me, to, but, like rjmichaelson, I have lost the window decorations. I'm using a single monitor, followed the modifications using copy-and-paste. Any other suggestions?

Redrum and Ed,

I have a request, I am running into a bit of a problem. My video card, an eVga Nvidia 6800 XT is not being enabled for 3d. I think I can manually change the xorg.conf file to fool xandros into thinking the card is similar to the pci id on another card, but this feat is beyond me. Last time I tried something like that was with version one when I was attempting to get my ASUS nvidia 4200 ti working. Anyway here is my file. Any suggestions let me know:

You should be able to force load the driver by typing xandrosxconfig --set-driver nvidia (4.0 SP1 and 4.1).

For reference, if you would type lspci -x and lspci -n and post the output, I'll make sure your card is on 'the list'

Thanks.
