Since this feature a Tech Preview it is not recommended to run this on a system you want to consider stable. If you do enable it and have issues do the following.
Boot you system using the Safe Video Mode option.
Go to Launch -> Control Center -> Video Effects.
Click on the Disable 3D Effects.
Reboot your system
You should be able to boot into your system normally. _________________ Kevin MacPherson

For thos that dive in this is a way to get back out.

thanks,
I thought I would wait for the hubub to die down, but you said that the hub would probably stay bub....
Even so.... I thought I'd download last night and couldn't even get XN to get through checking the package...
So, I didn't know about the big red sign.... is there a big red dog, or penguin also?
thanks again,
AiN't XaNdRoS gReAt!

Not sure why you are telling us to enable the 3D Desktop settings in safe mode. I installed it from XN, enabled it and rebooted my desktop and it is working fine. By the way I do not have a great video card, mine is on-board video card and I do not see any issues yet.
If there are issues that you are afraid off, please let me know so I can look for those on my PC.
Thanks

That's not what he said. He said if we get issues with 3D shall we boot into safe video mode and turn 3D effects off. |

Intel cards should work fine.
Some ATI will work fine while others will experience problems like KDE not starting properly. _________________ Kevin MacPherson

I'm assuming this doesn't work with nvidia cards then? I've heard a rumor the latest drivers are capable of handling 3d desktop, but when i go to video effects in the control center, it says my card isn't supported... Is there a way to override this somewhere? _________________

To get the 3D Desktop working in Xandros with Nvidia cards requires the newest nvidia legacy drivers.. _________________ DOS: n., A small annoying boot virus that causes random spontaneous system crashes, usually just before saving a massive project. Latest NVIDIA driver does support AIGLX (used for 3D video effects), but xandros has disabled 3D video effects since they do not provide the proper NVIDIA driver. Have no idea how to enable it again (check under /usr/share/libxandrosxconfig and see if you find something). |

Well, I am actually on my wifes laptop at the moment, which (I hate to admit this) has windoze on it. But, as soon as I put my son to bed tonight, I will have a look for you. _________________ DOS: n., A small annoying boot virus that causes random spontaneous system crashes, usually just before saving a massive project. I'm not sure what you mean by legacy drivers... Do you have the link to them? I actually build unofficial Xandros drivers, so if you have a link, I'll make a package.
Thanks. _________________

How is this feature turned on for those of us with the latest NVIDIA driver?
I've installed it, but I still get the message that my card does not work with the 3 effects!
I have a Geforce FX5500, (which should be overkill for these effects... ). _________________ geekydude

I am still looking into that.... I have the same card (Geforce 5500 - 256MB) and I am having the same issues.
However, in Sabayon in is working like a charm... So I am seeing what is going on. _________________ DOS: n., A small annoying boot virus that causes random spontaneous system crashes, usually just before saving a massive project. Easily cured by UNIX. See also MS-DOS, IBM-DOS, DR-DOS |
