| I have been using Xandros 4 (replacing Xandros 3) for two days and have installed an Epson stylus D68 printer. When I check in the control panel the printer is listed as installed (USB) and that it is 'idle, accepting jobs', but I can't get anything at all to print. I have checked through the forum but haven't found anything that helps. Can someone please advise. |

| Thank you Shengchieh. Your postings have helped me in the past. I didn't really get much from the web site suggested, and following your advice I attempt to print from the CUPS server. It didn't work. As I said I have installed Xandros 4 (with some difficulties, but it appears generally to operate properly). I have deleted and added the printer several times. The D68 is always recognised when I install, and the installation always seems to be successful. However, when I attempt to print, there is no response whatsoever. |

Hello Beacon!
I have an epson CX4100 and I Have to use the AVASYS drivers in order to make the printer work.
I tried the drivers included in Xandros 4, it detected the printer very well but when I sent a job to the printer nothing happens... the job dissapeared and nothing was printed. The printer status is "Idle".
So I decided to install the AVASYS drivers, now it prints and scans very well.
I recommend you to try those drivers, followings the next steps :
1- Go to the page :
http://www.avasys.jp/english/index.html
Then select Linux -> Driver download
http://avasys.jp/hp/menu000000500/hpg000000442.htm
2 - Select "Download" "Inkjet"
3 - Select "Stylus C67/C68/D68"
In "Distribution" select "Debian"
In "Version" select "others"
Complete your country and printer use then "next"
4 - Download the files under the title
"Printer Driver"
"Download for Stylus C67/C68/D68 for CUPS"
"pips-sc67-cups-2.6.3-1.i386.rpm"
5 - Open the "Xandros Network" and choose "Install rpm..."
6 - Select the file :
"pips-sc67-cups-2.6.3-1.i386.rpm"
7 - Open a console window and run the command :
/usr/local/EPAva/LITE/setup
then run the command :
/usr/local/EPAva/LITE/pipslite-install
The output should be something like this :
PPD file has been registered to /usr/share/cups/model
8 - Go to the "Control Center" -> "Printers"
Then Add -> Local -> Next
9 - Click the label "Have a PPD.."
10 - Browse and select the file generated in the step 8. It Should be something like this :
/usr/share/cups/model/eksd68.ppd
(In my case the file was "ekscx4100.ppd")
11 - You are ready to print the Test Page...
12 - Please tell me if that works for you.
Hope this help someone!
Good Luck!

Many thanks Aparatey, The instructions are very clear and helpful, but alas I haven't managed. At point 6 the file is installed, but there are various messages about dupicate sources unsupported and that I might want to update. When I try that I am told my system is already up-to-date. Then when I go to point 7 and run the command I get the message that there is no such file or directory. There may be a simple solution, and if you have any ideas I should be very grateful.
It might be necessary to start a new thread, but as an aside, can you explain why I can't copy, say, your letter so that I can move it and print it to have available as I carry out the various steps? As it stands, I can copy, but paste is always greyed out.
With thanks |

Please be sure when you are typing commands that you copy his case as well.. Linux is very much a case-sensitive OS.. _________________

| Thanks again Redrum. I have gone through the whole procedure again and have used copy and paste, so the case is correct. But I still get the same message: no such file or directory. |

Dear Beacon:
So you have downloaded the file from the AVASYS site but when you opened the "Xandros Network" and selected from the Menu the Option "Install rpm..." and browsed to the path where you left the file :
"pips-sc67-cups-2.6.3-1.i386.rpm" and chose the file some messages appeared... so could you please repeat steps 5 and 6 and post here the exact messages that are displayed in the window of the Xandros Network???
Maybe there was a problem during the installation of the rpm file.
Thanks
Aparatey |

Thanks for your reply. After step 5, when install seems to have been succesful I get the following message in step 6:

Done.
As I said, I have gone to apt-get update and then repeated the above and got the same message.
When I enter the command of step 7, I get the following: bash: /usr/local/EPAva/LITE/setup: No such file or directory
Thanks for your help. |

Interesting.. Please post the contents of your /etc/apt/sources.list file.. You should only have 2 entrys in there..
It should look like this.
deb http://xnv4.xandros.com/4.0/pkg xandros4.0-xn main contrib non-free
deb http://xnv4.xandros.com/4.0/upkg-i386 unsupported4.0-xn main contrib non-free
If there are dupes, please delete them.. Then save the file, type apt-get update again and it should be ready to accept packages again. _________________

| Redrum. There were three entries, so I eliminated the duplicate, and the installation seemed to be successful. However, when I went to step 7 I got the same message, that there is no such file or directory. |

Dear Beacon :
Good news!!! Thanks to Redrom's help the error messages disappeared.
When you installed the .rpm did you get any messages?
In my case I obtained the following :
Start /usr/local/EPAva/LITE/setup to change setup.
Start /usr/local/EPAva/LITE/pipslite-install to make ppd file.
Please could you open a console/terminal and use the "cd" command in order to reach the directory :
cd /
cd /usr/local/EPAva/LITE/
If you aren't logged as root please use the "su root" command
then try the followings :
./setup
./pipslite-install
Please post the result of the commands...
Good Luck

Thank you Aparatey. Sorry for the delay but storms seem to have affected the service provider. I received no messages when I installed the .rpm.
I have done as you suggested, but whatever command I type I get the usual: no such file or directory. |

Dear Beacon :
Mmmnnn... Maybe there is an Unmet Dependency and the Xandros Network is not showing it ???
Please could you open a console logged as root or using the "su root" command and try the following commands (in the path were you downloaded the file) :
alien -d -k pips-sc67-cups-2.6.3-1.i386.rpm
Just to convert the file to a .deb package. If the command runs succesfully it will create a file ".deb". So you can install the .deb file using :
dpkg -i pips-sc67-cups-2.6.3-1.i386.deb
Another posibility is trying to convert and install using Alien :
alien -i pips-sc67-cups-2.6.3-1.i386.rpm
Please post the outputs of the commands.
Best Regards

It must be something to do with me, as I do seem to have a lot of these problems.
I signed in as su and ran the first command. I got the following message:File "pips-sc67-cups-2.6.3-1.i386.rpm" not found
After the second (dpkg-i pips), I got the following: dpkg -i pips-sc67-cups-2.6.3-1.i386.deb
dpkg: error processing pips-sc67-cups-2.6.3-1.i386.deb (--install):
cannot access archive: No such file or directory
Errors were encountered while processing:
pips-sc67-cups-2.6.3-1.i386.deb
When I tried the third: File "pips-sc67-cups-2.6.3-1.i386.rpm" not found. |
