THIS IS NOT A PROBLEMS WITH MUSIC MANAGER THREAD.

This is an answer to a question that several folks have asked...does Music Manager rip cds and write cds from within Music Manager...yes, I have done it...

HOWEVER...the book does not tell you how to do it...the book goes through File Manager....

Here's how to do it in Music Manager....and see some cool stuff about tracks and album covers and stuff at the same time....I have not included here how to actually "enable" seeing things like album covers...I will do that in a follow on post, unless someone else does it first...

My example is "T.V. Cop Shows" cd... themes to the t.v. shows...

I Put T.V. Cop Shows in the dvdrw/cdrw/cdrom/coffee maker...

CD tracks came up in Music Manager and started playing first track..

The first thing you see is the album information in the top panel of the left side "Context" which shows all the "neato" stuff about the cd and when it was last played, how long it lasts...etc.etc.

On the left side are some "sidewise" tabs..."Playlists"..etc. go down the left to "Files"

In the the big panel on the right you still see the tracks and what is playing....and you will also see them in "files"

in "files" you now see a bunch of folders with various recording modes labled on them like FLAC,full cd.information, MP3 and Ogg Vorbis

And below that are the tracks with the extension ".wav"

if you click the OGG VORBIS folder...you will see all the tracks with the extension ".ogg vorbis"
If you click the MP3 folder you will see all the tracks with the extension "MP3"..

KEWL ...Music Manager has AUTOMATICALLY made the tracks for you in which ever format you choose.. to record them....to the hd or a "media device"..

if you right click a track you get a dialogue box and in it are the following commands:

Load
Append
Transfer to media device(Ipod)
Copy files to collecion
Move files to collection
Burn to cd
and other things...

I click "copy files to collection"

A dialogue box comes up with:

copy files to collection- music manager
the collection folder( with a dialogue to change...the default is my music )
use cover art for folder icons
file naming scheme
group by file type
group by artists initial
destination preview

so I click ok...

nothing happens..typical of Linux...

aaaahhhhhh but wait....even though there no little "folder thingy"..flying from one place to another....

That is because.... Linux ASSUMES that if you say you want to do something that you....aaaaahhhhhh want to do it..

So...I minimize Music Player and:

I go to Home/my documents/my music...and there it is..

I right click the file in My Music ....

I click "open with"....

a big dialogue box opens...it gives me the options of RealPlayer and Music Manager...I click Music manager...and Hawaii 5.0 plays..... KEWL

I go back to Music Manager and there it is, in the right side playing away...

Whether I right click the file in the big right pane or the one on the left ... there is a burn cd option....

I click the Hawaii 5-0 track and I get three options....the track, the album, all tracks...

I click "the track" NOW ... the TRACK IS NOT THE FILE....

It takes a second, but the actual track is stored in "My Music" AAANNNDDDD remember.... I chose to store it there ...as an MP3

I take a second to REMOVE the original cd from he cd/rw/dvd/rwcddvdrom/coffee maker... an insert a clean cd...

Another box pops up showing the music in "My Music" and there is the file...

I click the "track/ file"

I get a box asking me if I want to "record an audio cd for a cd player or a digital cd for computers or media devices".

I click audio cd ( remember the track is in mp3 as of now)

I get another dialog box which says "create Disc"

It lists my dvdrw/cd/cdrw/cdrom/coffeemaker and has a dialogue about speed, and the default it is set to max....

Below in another box it says audio cd....I click ok

A disc creation process box comes up with nice blue "overall progress' and "details" bars...

When both bars get to 100 percent they stop and the tray pops open...

I click done.

I take the cd out of the tray....

I go out to the car and pop it in the cdplayer...and it plays...

Xandros 4.0 users...."We're not in Kansas anymore"...

Xandros has done this right...play, rip, store(or not) and burn...or put on "media device"....Any way you twist it's tailll. it does it....

Now...it does not...as far as I can tell..."blend tracks"...etc. etc.. but then that is something for later....Xandros needs to get the basics down first....

AND BY THE BY....if you want to "go by the book" and do this through File Manager....you even get a box that shows the size of the cd and how much you have put on it....just like Ahead Nero...or DeepBurner....

NEXT YEAR....when 5.0 come out with how to run the microwave, in ADDITION, to a "removeable media device"....from the tray....

YOU can write it up!

Just kidding!.....the microwave thing probably won't be here till version 6!

I've found the easiest way to organize a custom CD burn is in Music Manager.

-create a playlist in MM, move the tracks around into the order you'd like them on the CD.
-select all the tracks, right click and choose Burn CD, choose Audio CD and you are in bidnis.

You know, I still never found Music Manager... I just must've not installed it the last time I reinstalled Xandros... but Grip and Audacity work pretty good.. Woodsmoke's got such a sense of humor! Bout have to when some of us dummies try to run Linux, or there'd be alot of computers flying out people's windows....

Just open a terminal window and execute the following command:

Yeah, Music Manager is included in Xandros 4. It can be installed if you are on Xandros 3> the real name of the program is, in fact, Amarok. Xandros has repackaged it as Music Manger.

Thanks. Yeah, I saw it on XNetworks. Trying to decide if it's worth it to take out a membership. XFM does rip cds, but it's sssssllllllllllllloooooooooowwwwwwwwwww!
