|
|
Has anyone successfully installed Xandros Server on an older Proliant box with SmartArray? I have attempted on ML370, DL360, DL370, and 1600 and 8000 series. In all instances I get an error that no hard drives are present. All are P3 units. I would just chalk it up to incompatible hardware, but I can get Debian to install on all of them. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
BTW...I have submitted this to Tech Support. They seemed not to be aware of this issue and are working on it. I just thought if someone had already found a work-around or a fix, it might benefit everyone.
Thanks!

Although I have no knowledge of the Xandros Server package, I couldn't leave your first post unanswered.
Welcome to my favourite website. I drop by here several times per day and have made some very good friends here. There are many helpful, enthusiastic and friendly folks hereabouts.
As woodsmoke would say, "Welcome to the friendliest forum on the net".
Someone with experience of the Server package will no doubt come by and give you their advice.
Meantime, welcome.

Thanks, Jim. Much appreciated.
I have recently started corresponding with Woodsmoke on another forum. Heck of a guy!
Since Debian works on these systems, I don't think it will be a real hard issue to fix. I'm a little anxious because I just became a reseller, and these systems are slated for deployment to various companies once I get them loaded and configured.
I'm new to the server, but have been playing with the desktop OCE for a while. I purchased the Business desktop the beginning of this year, and run it on my laptop. I'm THOUROUGHLY pleased with it!
Thanks again. I'm sure I'll see you around.

Are you loading the scsiraid controller driver during install, I'd think linux would know about it but offer it as a possibility. I know Xandros allows you to add additional (special drivers) during installation. Compaq/HP's site offers them for download. _________________ Running on many systems, multi booting up to 5 Linux OSs on a demo machine, started when it was Coral Linux. Need to know more; just ask.

I have a Compaq Proliant DL360 with dual Intel PII 933mhz cpus with the Compaq Smart Array. When I load up the Xandros Server CD I get the same error 4000...unable to detect hard drives.
I have another server with the same hardware running CentOS 4.3 since June. It would be nice to test Xandros on our spare. |

I found a little more information this morning on this issue. Apparently, this is a problem with the Kernel starting in version 2.6.15. Most of the sites showed fixes related to systems that were upgraded and wouldn't boot. This fix involved getting in and making some changes. Since my issue is installation, it seems the only fix is recompiling the kernel - something I don't know anything about. Here are a couple of links:
http://www.fedoraforum.org/forum/archive/index.php/t-100884.html
http://www.mcnabbs.org/andrew/linux/proliant/
I tried the suggestions in the first post, which didn't work. I guess I'm pretty much finished with this project unless/until a fix can be found and implemented.
