I'd like to know what tweaks your guys have done to get quake 3 to run.
I get it to play for a bit then it crashes and i have to hard reset.
do you guys run the kernel patch or somthing??? |
I haven't gotten around to trying Q3 in Xandros 3.0 yet. When I do I will try to remember your question and give an update here in the Games Forum. |

has anyone tried to run anything like rise of nations in xandr yet? if so, how did you do it? I took a cd image, mounted it via 'mount /dev/ron.iso' '/image/ron' -o loop=/dev/loop3
then I ran cxsetup via xfm (I installed x-over pro) chose unsupported software, and when it asked for location I chose other cdrom location and then the ron mounted directory and it ran into errors during the install?
never actually installed with x-over yet, so don't as usual have any clue. |

You just did it for me.
I try to keep up with all the game stuff going on for Linux in the Games Forum here but its tough sometimes. So much to do in real life and so much to do here. Can't do it all. Thanks for adding that info. |

Using Transgaming's Cedega I was able to load a few nice Windoze games into Xandros 3.0 Deluxe.
Commandos 2 (plays wonderfully)
Commandos Beyond the Call of Duty
Command & Conquer Red Alert
Diablo 2 (some performance issues...you cannot see your character for instance...however if you turn on automap...you can see on the screen where your character is supposed to be on the map....)
Darkstone (some performance issues..buttons don't look quite right...plays a bit slow)
Doom 3 (plays like a champ!)
Mob Rule (who knew such an awesome game would play this well in Linux??)
Some heartbreaks....
I was never able to get Half Life 2 to play in Cedega...despite it being officially supported.
None of the Star Trek games I have run under Cedega....
Commandos Behind enemy lines doesn't run under Cedega
A lot of my Command & Conquer titles either won't install or play well under Cedega...
I could never install Neverwinter Nights....same goes with the MechWarrior series....not installable.
These are just a few mentioned. If Transgaming could get these to run under Cedega....I'd never need Windoze again. _________________ Registered Linux User #404122

** You might want to check you video settings and do the updates.. I have Xandros OC3.2 and Diablo 2 and LOD run perfectly.
None of the Star Trek games I have run under Cedega....
** I havent tried ST Armada 1 yet, but Voyager Elite Force dosent run. And they **say it should run and I DID all the updates!
I could never install Neverwinter Nights....
Look are the forums.. There are 2 threds that will help you install NWN. There is a native Linux installer for it, but the easiest way is to do the windoze install and copy the files.. check Bioware's site for it.. search for Linux Installer.

The problems I have with Diablo 2 running....I should mention that Windoze XP and Windoze 2000 partitions also have the same flaw. You cannot see the character.
I have to run the game in 2d mode.... I can not run the game in 3d mode in doze or linux......
I have a decent graphics card ....the GeForce 5200 FX 128 mb.
Every other game I have that requires 3d plays fine....

| Having recently started using Linux (Xrandos 4), I am glad to see so many games out for linux. The problem is I play mainly online games such as EVE or SWG. Now if these compines would come out with a Linux version, I would switch 100% to linux, but I fear they will never comment to a linux version, since you have to pay on the order of $15.00/month and they don't like people messing with the client software, since most linux software is open source. I think that online gaming is the future and until we can get these companies to comment to a linux client, all we will have is older outdated games. Don't get me wrong, I am thrilled to see so many games availbe for linux. |

I'm afraid that I have to agree with you...if there was a "deep pockets" that was willing to actually just finance, a killer linux game AND....AND...also provide the long term, FAST server support, AND have someone to administer a fansite, a wiki.... then I think Linux would walk all over the other stuff....
but, unfortunately a game is 95% inspiration and getting the inspired programmer hooked up with the "right" person who has the vision to dump the money ...
inspiriation for the game
vision for the money...
GOOD COMMENTS....

SolarWolf is already available under the Xandros Network in the "Debian unsupported site." Or you can visit the website and grab a Linux binary installer that works like any of the Loki games.

Man, I loved that Solar Fox arcade game...even had it on the Atari 2600 (I still have the Atari 2600 cartridge). One of the best Pac-Man-like games since Exidy's Lady Bug.
(BTW, AtariAge now sells a homebrew version of Lady Bug for the Atari 2600.) _________________ once you go Tux, Gates won't get your bucks. |
