Hello all
I have several voice audio cassette tapes that I would like to record on CD. Is this possible on a computer? If so, what are the hardware/software requirements?

| Easy to do. Search for and download a free program called Audigy. There is a windows and Linux version. This will record the tapes to your computer then use your cd burning software to burn to cd. |

Actually Audigy is not what you would use here. The real name for the program is Audacity. See the link below for another forum discussion about recording sound files with Linux.

Thanks Lamont. A google search for "audigy" turns up innumerable pages for commercial sound card related stuff but no download programs.

I stand corrected.
It is Audacity not Audigy.
Sorry. |

lpbbear (and others)
I downloaded gramofile and it seems to be pretty straight forward and simple to understand, at least to a point. When I run the program, it goes thru all its tasks, but when I open the wav. file with mp3 player, there is no sound. It appears as though I need some further instructions. Your imput would be appreciated.

| Can your mp3 player play .wav files? They are quite different. |

I am not sure what to tell you. Noatun and XMMS both played my wav files fine. I did have a bit of hesitation with XMMS at first but it cleared up. I have used both audacity and gramofile with great results. |

|
| First go to Launch, Applications, Multimedia, Sound Mixer. Click the red (record enable) button for the input you wish to record from, and set the volume as needed. In Audacity, go to File, Preferences, Audio I/O, and be sure "Playback Device" and "Recording Device" are pointing to the correct device in your system. You might also wander through the other Preferences tabs and see if there's anything else you want to change, like sample rate, output file type, etc. |

Thank you!! That is the tip I needed. Gramofile is now working fine. I can open the sound file that was generated with XMMS, Real Player, etc.
Thanks to all who took the time to respond. I'm beginning to appreciate this X+R forum more. It is an exellent community!!!
