|
|
I've come back to Linux after a couple of years, and was looking forward to one of my favourite features - the command line. I was a bit surprised that it wasn't more prominent in the Xandros desktop and menus, but I understand that this is consistent with the Xandros priorities.
Anyway, I definitely want to be able to pull up a Console with a right-click on the desktop. How do I configure that menu?
I've already checked kmenuedit, and grep'ed through /etc for the strings I see in the menu, and found nothing.
TIA,
Javaman |

Thanks Chris,
That's helpful. I've put the console on the panel now. That'll do, but if someone has the answer to the desktop right-click menu, I'm still curious.

I have an admin console button in my quick launch bar. Right click the bar and add application button
Isn't this better than going to the desktop? |

Click Launch, Control Center, General Settings, Desktop Behavior, Desktop, under Mouse Button Actions select Custom Menu for the Right Button, then add whatever you like to it!

I can right-mouse on the launch toolbar, and then add an application, and drill through the menus to the application I want.
Then it's just a quicklaunch button on the toolbar. _________________ Thanks for all the fishes, Xandros. |

This is the method I currently use. _________________ geekydude

I added a Konsole applet to the Kicker.
Right-click -> Add -> Special Button -> Terminal Sessions
Then I get a pop-up menu with options for a Konsole, Root Konsole, and Midnight Commander. Very usefull.
I do like that middle-click method as well. _________________ The answers are out there. You just have to know how to find them.

Thanks everyone. I've added it to the "Quick Launch" panel. I've also used keditmenu to assign it to the Alt-T key. I also liked Jim's suggestion for creating a custom desktop right-click menu. The only problem with that is that it doesn't give us the ability to edit the default menu, only create a new one, but it's nice knowing that it's there.

Editing the desktop menu seems to be an impossible task in KDE.
And even though you can create a unique menu, there's no way to copy the stuff from the regular desktop menu over to it. Like the "Create New" menu and submenu.
Very frusterating. I've found posts from 2002 dealing with this very issue. |

Hi.
Sigh. I've wanted to do this also. Below is a post I found at kde.org, which indicates that it cannot be done below 3.3. I use 3.0.3 BE, and the version of kde in that (provided by kde-config -v) says kde is at version 3.3.0 ... cheers, drl
| Quote: | Hi,
You can change the options with the kiosktool which unfortunately
doesn't work with your kde version (3.1.3). To let kiosk work for
you
need a more recent version I believe (KDE > 3.3)
With kind regards,

You can also simply drag and drop icons from your start menu to the taskbar. _________________ Judyz
