I've tried to install different distros: Mandrake 10.1, Fedora core 3 and finally Xandros. All of them had the same problem: there was no sound.

I tried the ALSAconf, it detected my sound card, still no sound.

Recently I found a solution:

a) in BIOS disable the paralell port

b) in /etc open the file modules and add snd-intel8x0

c) in /etc/hotplug open the file blacklist and add snd-atiixp-modem

d) reboot

Et voila, the sound card should be working.
